Changing the world, or Changing Ourselves?

Its either of two dreams that a person envies, beautiful people get their dream of falling in love and a classic love story. At least that’s what we imagine, the ones who are closer to the other dream: the dream of an outstanding work life. They still can’t be enough. One is incomplete without the other, and one cannot be complete when there is the other. The rare security of having both, that every person feels in their lifetime, is short lasted and sometimes an illusion.

Love is a choice. One cannot choose love and still be happily in love, because in crucial moments when we must make decisions, we are under tremendous pressure and contemplation. One must struggle with their counterpart, to keep love alive, and in moments when peace and excitement co-exist, with the satisfaction of heading in the direction of love, can it be felt, that love is a gift and it does exist.

Our society, Indian middle-class parents have imbibed this thing, this fact in our minds that a perfect career is the only way to live with. That’s why I see so few people who choose love. None, rather. Can’t really blame parents though, that’s what they’ve seen all through their lives. That’s what they’ve had to accept, and slowly learnt that that is the only way to live. But then it is our responsibility to change the thoughts that we’ve carried down the line, to shape ourselves. It’s usually the teenage years when we realize that the world is in our hands. We can change it.

Wrong realization. The only thing we can change is ourselves. I don’t know when this obsession of changing the world came into being. Maybe, its one more thing we inherit from our upbringing. Another hard thing to unlearn.

Why don’t these revolutionaries understand that if each person, specially themselves will focus on changing themselves rather than the world, the world will automatically change.

Each person does focus on changing themselves, but not always for the best. That’s where a little bit of love can play it right. So show people love. Don’t be a bitch to show yourself you’ve got sass. Don’t stop having fun, but just be kind and don’t stop loving. The world is your family!
